5 Simple Ways to Find Time To Craft
Was one of your New Years Resolutions to find more time to craft ? But now you have no idea how you are going to fit in time to actually make it happen? I know it is hard to set aside time just to craft with everything we have going on in our lives. But where there is a will, there is a way, right?
I have 5 Simple Ways to Find Time to Craft to share with you today.
- Steal some time for yourself…Get up 30 minutes early or stay up 30 minutes later than the family and make that your dedicated Craft Time each week. Even if you just do it a couple of days a week you could chip away at a project a little at a time but have one finished in a few days.
- Make a “date” with another crafter… Schedule time with another crafter to get together and craft. Doing this will get a craft time planned in your schedule and even if it is only for a couple of hours it’s guilt free time you set aside just to craft.
- Have “tech free” time…get off the computer and your smart phone in the evenings and do a quick craft project instead. It is amazing how much time you can gain back in your schedule when you stop surfing the net, chatting on FB, or in the proverbial black hole of Pinterest 🙂
- Keep project kits handy…when you have a craft project you want to work on but never seem to have the time to do it at once, go ahead and pull those supplies together and keep near where you sit in the evenings watching tv, helping kids with homework, etc. I put my project kits in oversize Ziplock bags and toss in the papers, embellishments I might want to use, etc. and keep in a basket next to my comfy chair. I have one ziplock bag with basic supplies such as scissors, glue, adhesive, glue dots, a ruler and a pencil also in the basket. And a folding TV tray makes a great temporary work surface. So everything is handy and ready when I want to do a quick craft project such as card making or layouts. I made all my holiday cards over the course of a week just chipping away at them while I watched my favorite shows with the hubby.
- Trade Free Time…set up a trade with another family member or a close friend to watch the kids, do the dishes, laundry, run errands, etc. one time a week and use that time to craft instead. Then you help that person out by trading a task to give them time to do what they want. When my kids were young, I traded time with my hubby 1 night a week so I had a couple of hours to do what I wanted like craft or even just take an uninterrupted bubble bath or read a book, etc.
We all have the exact same 24 hours in a day to portion out what we need or want to get done. You can find time in your schedule if you really look and get creative. What are your tips for making sure you have time to craft ?

I wish I had some tips to share, but I’m still sorting out the Christmas stuff and repacking to get back into the attic. I couldn’t get to it earlier this week, as it was just too bloody cold out there. I’m going to packing up all the “crafty supplies” together, so I can pull down that box in the summer and start replicating many of your holiday projects.
I like the idea of bringing some supplies into the living, as my husband also prefers that I not hide away in the craft room while he’s relaxing in front of the tv. I’ll store some supplies in the drawers of a new coffee table that I haven’t put anything in yet. Hey, maybe Project Life stuff, as it’s pretty compact. Wow, I may even get it started this year. Working on project life requires some brief reflection, and that would be the perfect time to jot down the brief notes and stories that would be documented. I really think that might work (PLUS free up some space in the craft room for the latest purchases!) Yay, now I have a project to look forward to after the Christmas stuff is back up!

Thanks for these tips Debbie. The Craft Date is a double whammy, love that one. Esspecially if I can make it to their house. No distractions:-)
And no-tech means loads more time!
I have also found that keeping my desk tidy (i.e. clean while you go etc.) means I am more likely to do some crafting when I have little time. And if I have a little bit of time I might just put a few papers and embellishments together for a project I am (going to be) working on. Every little bit helps.
