DCC Holiday Blog Hop

DCC BlogHop11.1.13

Welcome to the Die Cut Crazy Magazine Holiday Blog Hop ! The Die Cut Crazy designers have made some wonderful holiday projects to inspire your own holiday crafting with your die cuts. If you just joined our hop, be sure and go back to the Die Cut Crazy Magazine Blog to learn how you can enter to win a prize from Die Cut Crazy Magazine when following the hop from designer to designer.

My holiday project today is a 3 D Christmas Tree Box. It was purchased from the Silhouette Online Store and is a Lori Whitlock design. As you will see in my tutorial below, I made a minor change to the assembly so I could use the box as a treat box and not just for display.  I love making minor adjustments to 3D files to suit my own needs, don’t you ?

3 D CHRISTMAS TREE TREAT BOX TUTORIAL

1. Layout out shape on your Silhouette software screen.

2.  It’s best to cut this shape out using double-sided patterned paper that is one of the stiffer types so the tree holds its shape easily.

3. Fold the all the edges up of the tree along the score lines as shown below. Make sure the side of the paper you want to show most is facing up when you do this.

Folded edges of tree

4. Fold the center of the tree shape so that each piece now will stand up.

5.  Choose one of the tree shapes and some adhesive (I used Scor-Tape) to one of the tree bases on the inside as show below.

apply glue to base

6. Insert the other tree shape without the adhesive on top of the tree base with the adhesive.

7. Now the basic tree shape is ready to finish putting together.

8. Adhere three sides together along the edges of the bent tree branches. Leaving one side open with no glue.  Make sure you have the boxed turned so that the pieces with holes punched out are facing each other. Note: This is where I made a minor change to what was intended with the original file.  I wanted the box to be able to be opened to add treats 🙂

9. Thread a pretty ribbon to match your paper choice through the holes. I used about a 16 ” piece of ribbon..enough to easily tie in a bow.

10. Tie the ribbon in to a bow at top of tree. The box is now completed.  Isn’t it adorable? And so easy to put together a bunch of these as needed. They are ready for you to add a little surprise inside to give out to friends, family and co-workers. The file is big enough to add a gift card, candy or small gift to the inside.

11. I plan on making these as party favors for our holiday table instead of a traditional party poopers.  So I added a guest name to the front of the tree to put at their place on the table. Our guest can take them home afterwards and use a little holiday memento.                       I love multi-purposed projects !

LOVE this tree!!! Wonderful project. It has such a fresh clean look that I can almost smell that pine!

How lovely of you to offer blog candy. And doubly lovely that you are not requiring Facebook to be eligible…which I greatly appreciate!!! That requirement disqualifies me from the main prize, because I do not have access to FB. 🙁

I love this! I would also use it to put treats in. I am going to put names on them and hang them on the tree so the grandkids can take an ornament home with them. They love being able to have an ornament with their names on them so I do one for each of them every year. That way when they move out on their own they already have a head start on decorating their tree. TFS!

Great idea! 3D projects always have a WOW effect when given as gifts. I’m collecting digital cutting files, and hope to use them when they come out with the next version of the Cameo (hopefully next year!)
