What’s Up with Cricut Explore Subscription Plans ?

Whats Up with Cricut Explore Subscription Plans

Today I wanted to share information about the SUBSCRIPTION PLANS for the new Cricut Explore.  First, lets clear up a couple of things people seem confused about.

The Cricut Explore is the name of the new Cricut die cut machine. The internet based application you use with your computer and Cricut Explore die cut machine is called Cricut Design Space.  This is the software you log in to on the internet using the web address @ www.cricut.com/design.

Cricut Design Space is FREE to use.  No charge for using it at all.  Isn’t that nice ?Whether you have a Cricut Explore or even if you don’t own one yet, you can use your current Cricut.com account log in info (or create an account if you don’t) and play around in Cricut Design Space, creating projects and saving them. Click HERE  to log in or create an account to check out Cricut Design Space.

cricutexplore

But wait, why is Cricut trying to have you sign up and pay for a SUBSCRIPTION to Cricut Design Space if using the software is free ?

The SUBSCRIPTION PLANS  are access to the CRICUT IMAGE LIBRARY …over 25,000 single images, and image sets (cartridges or digital sets) you can use in Cricut Design Space to make your projects.

but what images are included in the CRICUT IMAGE LIBRARY?  Lucky for us, Cricut has made a handy LIST OF CRICUT LIBRARY IMAGES so you can know what is included in the subscription…see the entire list HERE.

  • New images will be added to the library as they are released so the list will grow !
  • Not included are LICENSED (like Disney, Hello Kitty, etc), RETIRED (       ) and ENTITLED (part of past Cricut machine bundles)

There are two SUBSCRIPTION PLAN OPTIONS:

MONTHLY for $9.99/month  which is option that you can cancel any time**

OR

YEARLY for $99.99 which is a better value, making it only $8.25 a month **

IMPORTANT TO MENTION:  with a subscription you are basically “renting” the images to use during your subscription period BUT you do not own them at the end of the subscription.

**Access to purchase SUBSCRIPTION PLANS will be available soon at Cricut.com

Do you have other Cricut Explore SUBSCRIPTION questions ? Leave me a comment and I will answer them.  And don’t forget to come join us over at my Facebook group @ Lets Learn Cricut Explore for more help, tips and fun !

All my comments are my own opinions on those products. I appreciate your support when you purchase using the post links.

I do not belong to Facebook and I don’t plan on joining. Can’t you offer this information in a blog or create a new subject in the cricuit messages. Not every one want’s to be on Facebook and it upsets me that to get this information you have to join. What’s wrong with this picture? There are others that feel this way and I think you should be able to accommodate everyone.

  • If you choose to buy an image instead of opting to buy a supscription means the image you buy is yours forever right? I’m sure I’ve been told this but I want to make sure.

I purchased the November mystery gift from Cricut which included 2 free months of subscription to Cricut images. I don’t know how to get those images at no cost. It looks like I am still charged for images I don’t own in design space.

I’m having the same problem. I just bought a monthly subscription but when I go to insert images or fonts, the prices are still there. Shouldn’t it say $0.00? I shouldn’t be charged for each image or font when I have a subscription, right?

I’m thinking of getting a one month subscription… When you say that you are “renting” the images in the library does that mean anything you create with them and save will no longer be available to edit or print again after the month runs out ?

When uploading a cartridge that you own into your cricut account to use with an explore, is that cartridge then able to be used in a different machine to be uploaded again? Meaning, if I let a friend use my cartridge to upload to her account, will I still be able to upload it to mine, or will it be flagged as having already been used?

Hello! I just bought a Cricut Explore Air and love it! I’m thinking of getting the annual subscription because it is a better deal. Just to be clear, once subscribing, ALL images/fonts in Design Space that had previously costed money will now be included except for licensed items (ie. Disney, Hello Kitty, etc.)?

Hey, Debbie….your website came up as a place to ask questions about subscriptions. I am glad, because I have a few. First, nowhere in the info. I got with my new Explore Air does it say that I got a freebie subscription. Reading above, I guess that’s what I got because under MY IMAGES there are tons of pictures that have the blue SUBSCRIPTION bar underneath. I have not paid for any subscription. So at the end of two weeks, or something, those images will disappear? Secondly, when I log into Cricut Design Space and select a new project, the filter on the right has a few things to check to show my images…every time I do this the number of images is different. Sometimes I can see all my old cartridges and sometimes not…what am I doing wrong?

Thanks so much for getting back to me. I get it on the subscriptions. I don’t think I would even do $8.25 per month to justify it, but if I start going crazy, who knows? To the other question….yes I am using the filter, and when the drop down comes, I was clicking on MY IMAGES. I checked to make sure I was completely and correctly signed in. Under MY IMAGES, I got all the subscription ones and then at the end I got a few of my cartridges, but not all. Then I clicked on PURCHASED and got a few more, but not all. Then I exited the whole thing and tried again. Finally I got what I think is all my images (except for this Sesame Street cartridge). I think I have total about 3200 images. So I exited again, and tried it a third time, and only got 2100 images. I like that total number…it seems to help me keep track. I just thought I was doing something wrong, but who knows. I can live with it, but if you have some tips for me, I would surely appreciate it. Keep up the good work, helping us all out. Thanks so much.

Help where am i going wrong?

So happy to have found your page! We just purchased the Explore Air and I’m having trouble adding my own images in Design Space. I’ve tried several different images and I’ve reviewed quite a few tutorials that explain how to do this, but I don’t have a Continue option once I’ve selected the option to upload the image and then the image type. It only says Back. Any suggestions?

I’m thinking about getting the Explore Air and I’ve never had any previous Cricut products. Can you do projects without having a subscription? Or what things are you limited to without a subscription? From what I’ve read below you really can’t do anything without this subscription.

  • Hi Debbie, Once you prepare images to be cut are they always ready to go without setting up to cut again? In other words, if I cut 10 today, can I go back and just click cut tomorrow without setting up the file again? I am a designer and would be using my own original artwork – are my own files saved on Cricut account, or on my hard drive? Thanks

    Hi ladies;
I just got my Cricut Explore Air yesterday and have been going through the pains of the learning curve. Mine came with a subscription for a month, but when I choose a project I also still get a price showing. These are not Disney or licensed images that I can tell, just random projects. The other oddity with one of them is that all the components were listed as free but the font came up with a price! Is this subscription truly worth it? Im in Canada and our dollar is tanking and it will cost quite a bit for us here and if I am still going to be locked out of most projects I won’t bother. I also felt there should be more projects, I wasn’t too stoked on the ones I did see.

Please help if you can. I am in Canada. When I tried to get a subscription going, it asked for a password to authorize it. My Cricut password failed. What password does it want?

I tried to subscribe a different way from a different page, and it will not give me any other country choice except USA, and because of that it wont accept my postal code.

I can’t call them because I do not have any phone anymore, no cell no landline. Only internet.

Anyone have ANY ideas? This expensive machine is sitting here idle since my free sub ended, the free designs are no fun.

Hello there! I just discovered this Cricut machine a week ago because my friend told me it fits my hobby. Since then I’ve been watching videos and reading about it. Since you explained what part you need to pay which is reasonable for having access to good stuff, I am now a bit confused with what you can buy vs what you pay for monthly subsrciptions. So I was checking the Cricut website and check out what else they offer. They are selling fonts styles, clipart images and some accessories. Lets say I buy a set of font, will that stay with me meaning regardless if my subscription is over I will still have them available for me? 2nd is that I saw a video that if you use the font they have in the app you will have to pay some amount. I guess what I’m trying to say is that if you buy something from their website do you still need to pay something when you’re designing a project using that font you buy? Sorry if you get confuse with my questions, I’m a bit confuse of what they offer to buy, to subsribe, and if you buy the fonts etc will that eliminates paying the amount everytime you use the font you bought to design a project.

Why am I being charged Tax on my design space monthly fee it is a non tangible item?

The transfer of a downloadable file such as an eBook or an “app” is not a taxable transaction.

As a reminder, in California, sales of software programs which are downloaded without any tangible property exchanging hands are not subject to sales tax.

A digital subscription service would be considered intangible.
