Day 15: 25 Days of Christmas Projects Inspiration
Welcome to Day 15 of 25 Days of Christmas Project Inspiration:
Favorite Holiday Movies
There are a lot of wonderful holiday movies to watch this time of year. The classics like It’s A Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, White Christmas, Scrooge and many more. I do love those but one of our families favorites is The Grinch with Jim Carey. It is hilarious and well done. Amazing how Jim Carey makes us feel mad, sad, and happy about the Grinch. I wanted to add a Grinch Ornament to our tree…I already have a White Christmas Ornament, and a It’s A Wonderful Life ornament so why not add another movie favorite !
Glitter Ornament Tutorial:
1. Gather supplies: Clear glass or plastic ornaments (I used 2.58″ flat glass ornament but you can use round too), Liquid Wax with FINISH (regular liquid wax will not work), ultra fine glitter, paper cups, Vinyl (indoor Oracle 631 works great) and paper towels.
2. Add liquid wax to the inside of the ornament by taking off the top and squiriting in a portion of wax. Tip: Pledge Floor Wax FINISH or the Holloway House Quick Shine Floor FINISH both work great. I could not find the Pledge Finish or I bought Holloway at Home Depot.
3. Gently roll the Floor Finish Wax around in the ornament until it is completely coated. Pour wax out in a paper cup. These small Dixie paper cups are perfect. Tip: Don’t shake or you will get air bubbles.
4. Use ultra fine glitter. Tip: I like the Martha Stewart Glitter but any will do. You get better coverage with ultra fine than regular glitter.
5. Add ultra fine glitter to ornament. Use a generous amount. Gently shake and roll the ornament in your hand to cover the inside of the ornament with glitter. I use my finger over the open top of the ornament. Tip: I like to add glitter to a paper cup and slightly squeeze the sides to pour in to ornament top
6. Pour out excess glitter. Tip: I pour it back into the same cup so I can re-use for either another ornament OR to pour back into the glitter container.
7. Set aside the ornament and let it dry. Tip: I usually let it dry about 15 minutes before I apply the vinyl to it.
8. Set up your image of choice on your die cut machine mat. I used my Silhouette Cameo but you can do this on any die cut machine. Tip: I like to use a circle template shape and make a shape the same size as my ornament (in red) to use as a guideline to know how large to make my cut image. Then I can remove the circle shape before I cut the image.
9. Cut out image of your choice in vinyl for ornament.
10. Weed the cut image and use transfer tape to layer the face onto the yellow eyes.
11. Apply the image shape in vinyl to the glittered ornament. Tip: Gently rub over the image to adhere to the ornament. Pull away the transfer tape slowly and rub a little more to release the image from the transfer tape if necessary.
12. The Grinch ornament is finished…..or is it ?
13. I love the Grinch wearing a Santa hat in the movie so I wanted to add one to my ornament too. I bought a package of small Santa Hats from Hobby Lobby. I used Scor-Tape to add the Santa hat to the front of the ornament. Now he is ready for the Christmas Tree in our home.
Here is what is looks like on the back so you can see how it works with the Santa hat on it. I also added the year.
