Day 3: 25 Days of Christmas Projects Inspiration

25 days of Christmas

Welcome to Day 3 of 25 Days of Christmas Projects Inspiration:

Christmas Banners

I am so excited to get to do a Christmas Banner for the hop !  Making banners is one of my absolute favorite crafty things to make.  I decided to give this banner making a “little twist” and not do the more common party hanging  banner style.

During the Christmas Holidays I love to have little surprises sitting around the house for our guest to discover when visiting.  This standing pennant type banner I created,  which I am calling “Vintage Santa Banner”, will most likely be displayed on a side table in our living room.  I plan on adding a few of my vintage Santa collection to the table to complete the vignette.

BannerThis banner was so simple to make but has a bit of WOW factor with the lush trims and sequins I added. And I just couldn’t resist that adorable Santa face !

Vintage Santa Banner Tutorial:

1. To create the Vintage Santa Banner, I did a Print N Cut (PNC) with my Silhouette onto white cardstock. The image is actually the Merry Christmas Tag by Echo Park from the  Silhouette Online store.  I edited it to be larger to fit on an 8 1/2 X 11 sheet of paper and printed it out on white cardstock. I trimmed it, leaving just a slight white border around it.

2. I cut a background piece out of Teresa Collins Green Damask paper from the Santa’s List Collection.

3. I mounted the trimmed Print N Cut image on top of Green Damask background paper using foam pop dots to raise the image up from the background paper.

4. I cut a 2 inch strip of Red Polka Dotted paper from the same Teresa Collins Santa’s List Collection stack.  I  folded it in half and added it to the top of the Green Damask background paper to balance out the deep red color.

5. I added some deep red trim along the bottom of the Vintage Santa image, then layered a glittery velvet dark green ribbon on top using Scor-Tape.

6. To add a little more sparkle, I added a few Sequins from the Teresa Collins Santa’s List. I adhered these using glue dots.

7. I punched two holes along the top and added binder rings to hang the Vintage Santa Banner from a metal stand.  My stand is from 7 Gypsies Company.  (I believe Michaels craft store also has a similar type of hanging stand you could use instead).

8.  Finishing touch was to add some satiny silver and white ribbons along with some dangle rhinestones to the metal stand bar. It added that finishing touch of sparkle to the display piece.

Hope you are inspired to make one of these.  If you don’t have a stand, you can always add a long ribbon instead of the metal rings and hang on the wall from a hook or wreath hanger on your door.

I like the idea of using those stands throughout the year. It would be a great way to use up scraps. And I can’t tell how large the display is, but if it’s smaller, you could maybe use the hanging part later on a larger wall mounted canvas or something! ooh, especially if you printed that top layer on Square 1!
