Day 4: 25 Days of Christmas Projects Inspiration

25 days of Christmas

Welcome to Day 4 of 25 Days of Christmas Project Inspiration:

Teacher Gift Ideas

We love to honor our kid’s teachers this time of year but sometimes it is hard to think of something different to give them.  Lotions, gift cards, handmade candies or cookies, etc. all seem to be common items.  This year I decided that with cold and flu season just around the corner, what the teachers could really use was a way to keep everyone healthier in the classroom.  So,with that in mind, I decided to make some customized Hand Sanitizers for the classroom.

Hand Sanitizer Teacher Gift Tutorial:

1. Purchase some bottles of hand sanitizer from the store. Take off the label, both front and back.  You can easily peel off the label if you soak them in hot soapy water or use Goo Gone.  Tip: Buy one’s that are clear so your customized image shows up better.

2. Select the image you want to use. I wanted something that the kids might think was fun, so I went with this adorable Print N Cut Mr. Happy Don’t Worry, Be Happy image from the Silhouette Online Store.

3. Now of course I couldn’t just leave the image the way it was, right? I edited the words Mr. Happy on the bottom to say “Germ Buster” including changing the font and color.  I also changed the background color of the Mr Happy image. It is so easy to do with my Silhouette Designer Edition software.

4. Next I added the registration marks to the image to prepare it to Print N Cut. Tip: Change the registration mark margins when you are doing small images so that you can save the material you are using like I did in the photo below.  Or you can fil in the entire page with other images you want to Print N Cut too.

4. I printed out the image using my Ink Jet Color Printer on Square 1 Printable Adhesive Backed Fabric that you use just like vinyl but it is Acid Free and PVC Free making it perfect for using on a project around kids. Below shows the registration markings on the print out.

5. Once I printed out the image on the Square 1 Printable, I then set it up on my Cameo to cut it out.  The registration marks are important so the Cameo can read it and know exactly where to cut out your image.

6. Trim away the excess material so you can begin “weeding” (taking away the part of the image you don’t need). Tip: Save the extra material for another project.

Cut away excess pnc7. “Weed” the image and prepare to put on your project. The great thing about the Square 1 Printable is that since it is actually Fabric and not plastic like a vinyl, I can peel up the image and apply to my project without using transfer tape.  If you have small pieces like the letters for the word GERM that you want to stay together just use a piece of blue painters tape to align them and apply to your project.

8. I added some ribbon to the lid of the Hand Sanitizer and it is ready to be given as  gift to the teacher for the holidays, along with a box of tissues. This project was fast and easy. I could make several at one time. Plus I feel good about giving a gift that is environmentally friendly and safe for kids to use.

I can’t believe that the Silhouette can cut out those tiny letters. I like the idea of using Square 1 on this project, as I think paper would eventually come up around the edges, especially if it got a little bit wet, as this one might.
