Day 6: 25 Days of Christmas Projects Inspiration
Welcome to Day 6 of 25 Days of Christmas Project Inspiration:
Kids Christmas Craft
I just love getting the kids excited and involved in making Christmas Crafts. One of my all time favorite ideas is to have the kids help make a Melted Snowman Ornament. They do require some adult supervision and help but the smiles on the kid’s faces when they take these home are worth the effort.
Melted Snowman Ornament Tutorial:
1. Gather the supplies: Large Plastic Round Ornaments, White Mica Flakes for snow, Cardstock for die cut pieces, Ribbon, Snowflakes, Die Cut Machine and Snowman face image. Optional: Vinyl
2. Adult needs to cut out the pieces of a snowman out of colored cardstock first. I used glitter cardstock for some of the shapes for added sparkle. I used my Silhouette Cameo and a couple of different Snowman images – Melted Snowman File (hat, nose, coal eyes, mouth, melted snow) Snowman Icon File (heart, buttons, scarf, arms) from Silhouette Online Store. Make as many sets as you have kids. Tip: You could also just print out individual snowman pieces on cardstock and have the kids cut them out too if you don’t have a die cut machine.
3. Now comes the KID part of this Christmas craft…Take top off the plastic ornament and add the mica flakes. Tip: I used a funnel from my kitchen to get the mica flakes in the ornament a little easier. Just shake them in a little at a time. I suggest having the kids hold the ornament and funnel and you shake the mica in to avoid it getting everywhere.
4. Next is the super fun part for the kids…have them drop in the various snowman pieces that were cut out and a few of the snowflakes. They will need to gently roll up the hat and the melted snow piece a little to get it in the hole. Tip: Adult can use a thin pencil or paper piercer or dowel to help unwind the hat once it is inside the ornament.
4. Put the cap back on, add some ribbon and you are done ! The kiddos will love having their own melted snowman ornament to display or give as a parent gift. Have then shake them and see all the various snowman pieces each time they shake them.
OPTIONAL: Since my granddaughter was a little bitty girl she always says “oh no Frosty” every time we watch poor Frosty melt at the end of the Frosty the Snowman show. So I decided to make her a melted snowman ornament using that phrase “Oh No Frosty ! ” I used silver metallic vinyl that I cut with my Cameo and applied to outside of the glass. I will give it to her this year when we get together to for our traditional hot chocolate and Frosty the Snowman watch party.

I laughed when I saw the last finished ornament; that’s a GREAT story and she’ll always remember watching it with you. You’re so lucky to have her so close by. I assume you used Square 1 for the sentiment? Or is it paper – it looks too smooth to be Square 1. Or is it vinyl? Just curious….
