Day 7: 25 Days of Christmas Project Inspiration

25 days of Christmas

Welcome to Day 7 of 25 Days of Christmas Project Inspiration:

Homemade Gift

There are a lot of people on my holiday list that already have anything they could possibly wish for Christmas.  For those people, I love to make something special. Something homemade that they can’t buy at a store.  This year I have decided to make someShadow Box Decor Frames.

Shadow Box Gift

Shadow Box Frame Tutorial:

1. Purchase a shadow box frame.  I bought these 5X7 frames at Michaels Craft Store. They came in a set of 4 so I have plenty to make more gifts. Other craft stores or frame shops will have these shadow boxes as well.

2.  Gather your other supplies: Vinyl, Patterned paper, embellishments and ribbon. I used black and gold Vinyl to cut with my Cameo die cut machine. A package of Jingle Bells and these glittery balls.

3. Select which piece of pattern paper you want to use for the background. I selected some lovely paper from the Teresa Collins Checking It Twice paper pad. Tip: Make sure to not pick a pattern that is too busy. You want to be able to see the vinyl design clearly.

Pick paper

4. Cut out the part of the patterned paper you want to use.  I decided I wanted some of the pretty glitter pattern to show so I cut that part out to fit the backing of the Shadow box frame.  I just laid it on the paper and traced the outline and cut it out. Then glued it to the backing.

6. Cut the images out of vinyl.  I used gold for the tree and black for the Believe in the Magic. Place the tree on the patterned paper on the shadow box backing.  Add the Believe in the Magic to the front of the glass of the shadow box.

7. Add in a few of the jingle bells and glitter balls in the bottom of the shadow box and put the cover back on.

8.  Make a box if you like and adhere to the frame to complete.

I like how you mixed the glittered balls with the jingle bells, and the 5 x 7 is a good size, because it can be moved all throughout the house. Sometimes I think those 12 x 12 ones are just not as versatile when decorating, because there are only so many surfaces to put it on.
