NEWS FLASH: A New Cricut Machine Coming Soon
Well it seems there is a rumor (actually more than rumor since we found photos to share) that Provo Craft is announcing this coming Tuesday that they are launching a NEW Cricut machine named CRICUT EXPLORE that is capable of:
- cutting svg files
- electronic tablet enabled
- drawing your own cut files
- and embossing
Here is some verbage we found from Provo Craft about the new Cricut Explore:
“Cricut Explore is the first product to be released as part of this new era for the brand. A versatile cutting, drawing and embossing machine, it is paired with powerful software that empowers users to create a vast range of craft products.”
Here are few photos related to the new Cricut Explore:
We could not find mention of a release date or price point at this time. I guess we will find that out on Tuesday, January 21. We will report more details as we find them.
We had read some speculation about a new Cricut machine on the SVGCuts website in November of 2013. If you want to read more about the patent info that was filed with descriptions, please feel free to go HERE to read more.
My personal opinion is that Provo Craft will have an uphill battle gaining back lost ground after so many former Cricut fans abandoned ship after major issues with past PC products and the treatment they received from Provo Craft. But I guess there are always new crafters out there that aren’t tainted by the past experience who might find this new machine to their liking.
Leave a comment and tell me what you think about this new machine? Would you be interested in this new Cricut Explore machine or will you be sticking to another brand of die cut machine?
All my comments are my own opinions on those products. I appreciate your support when you purchase using the post links.

I have the baby bug, the cake, the Imagine (which I love) and two Expressions. No mini or E2 and sporadically use the Gypsy. I really am comfortable with Design Studio and have used CCR only occasionally. I am still very pleased with my Expressions and do not have the computer skills to do SVGs and all that but it looks like everything is headed in that direction. So guess I’ll have to learn. I will use my Expressions until they wear out and then decide which other cutter to move onto. Right now I am very happy and won’t be making any big moves.
Debbie
Need to add: I really enjoy learning about the new things on the market as well as new techniques so I will be watching and listening to see how all this goes. I am a frugal crafter and try not to make hasty decisions especially on big ticket items (anything over $50 for me!!). There are plenty of crafters in the world and lots of room for everybody and their personal preferences of machines and techniques. Have seen lots of wonderful creations by people using other cutters and just hope everybody can find the one for them.

I have an Expression and the E2. I wish I could sell one machine plus cartridges to down size. Do not care for Cricut products any longer. I want the cameo.
When the Expression the machine has extra button for future updates. What do they do, come out with a new machine the E2. Now instead of making the E2 cut svg files they come out with another machine. I refuse to spend any money with Cricut. That’s how I feel.
pookie
I completely am hearing you….I know I feel the same way. BTW I LOVE my cameo….I haven’t looked back..I just don’t know what to do with my hundreds of $$$’s in cricut carts…..
Sheree
I will wait and see if this machine has bugs in it like the Imagine. I have 3 machines including the E2 and really cannot justify purchasing another machine until one of the machines I have wears out.
pookie
yep, I have the I, E1, E2, and the create….I love my cameo….
Candice
Never a Cricut again. Provo Craft cut their own throat.
pookie
agreed

love what I have, baby bug, create, expression, gypsy and about 100 carts. the cutters using the internet seems a little too complex for me. also looks like it’s smaller than the expression and I guess I’m a little spoiled, lol! time will tell, not opposed to the new machine.

I am not interested in this machine at all. PC is a little to late in coming with a product like this. I’ve already bought a machine that will use SVG files and as soon as I get it up and running I will be using it to do so. I will continue to use my Cricut Expression, E2, Gypsy and Imagine until they don’t work anymore as I have to much invested in them as well as 200 carts. But I won’t be putting anymore of my money into PC anytime soon. No they lost me a while back when they didn’t get the Imagine working like it should have and discontinued the Gypsy along with other things.
pookie
my sentiments exactly.

I still have my Expression (hated my E2 and sold it) my Gypsy and my Imagine with 250+ carts. I have not purchased anything Cricut in over a year. I LOVE what my silhouette can do but miss being able to cut thicker materials. I like having both. I am curious about the new machine….

As for me I will not be buying another Cricut. I have 5 different ones now and so many carts I don’t have the room to store them. Along with the gypsy and DS and Juke box, I still haven’t used them even remotely close to what I have spent on them. I just received the Silhouette and need to sit down and read and learn that one. So nope no new purchases from this crafty lady.

Hi Debbie,
Other that picking up some digital images here and there, I doubt I would ever purchase another Provo Craft machine. I am the owner of 1 expression, which gets the job done. I also own the Gypsy which was ok, but too small. I also purchased the Imagine, which before launch, Provo Craft boasted how well it would work with the CCR. For whatever reason, Provo Craft decided they were no longer going to support the Imagine in the CCR. When you get to a certain age, designing in a small standalone screen is next to impossible. At one time the Imagine and CCR did work wonderfully together. After a series of horrible updates, I cannot see to use it as a standalone machine. About that time Provo Craft announced that their intent was for the Imagine to be a standalone machine. Many people feel they got ripped off by Provo Craft when they recanted, “The next big thing in crafting.
I have found a wonderful use for My Imagine. When I need something super flat, I will set the Imagine on it for a few days. I am considering offering a flattening service for a nominal fee.
pookie
I agree, my I hardly get used and when I wanna use it it shut off in the middle of a project so frustrating. I ad it sent back 2 times and gave up. very expensive paper weight right? I have all the useless carts for it as well. (I own all but photo real) so sad…
Barbara
I will stick with what I got. Provo craft was behind the door when things started to change. Didn’t like their attitude when I had a problem with my cricut.

I am one of the customers who bought a cricut with the express intent to use it with the PC software that worked with it at the time. Immediately, it was disabled and I was left with a machine that was worthless to me. I then spent the money to purchase a Silhouette Cameo. It will definitely be an uphill climb to get me interested in these products again. Thank you for giving us a peek into what they are doing to regain the ground that has been lost in this market. I will watch what you bring us in updates. Thank you.
pookie
agreed…

I feel it’s a little late, and they will have a serious uphill battle, I just switched over to the brother scanncut, and I love it, I am passing my expression that I never upgraded on to another family member…. No more electronic provocraft machines for me for a very long time… If ever
Pam
Wow thank you so much for this it looks amazing I love my E2 but also like my Ecraft machine as it cuts SVG files. This sounds brilliant and love the idea of using my tablet. Wonder how much it will cost snd if it will be available in the UK? Xx
Flo Hill-Rennie
I did wonder what they would come up with. I have seen all the comments in the past and I have a number of Cricut machines. I love my Cricuts. I do have 2 other direct machines both of which cut sig files but I love the Cricut carts as I don’t have to design my own icons if I don’t want to or try to work out how to make a shadow. If I could afford the new machine I would get it in a blink but as yet cricut.com don’t recognize New Zealand so it will cost the earth to ship it out. But I will be watching.

AFTER A 2 YEAR PERIOD AND LARGE SUIT AGAINST SURE CUTS….NOW A MACHINE THAT DOES JUST THAT …HMMMM…NOW LADIES IF YOU WERE CEO AT THAT TIME WOULD IT HAVE BEEN BETTER TO LET SURE CUTS BE PAID TO 1) SHARE THEIR DATABASE OF CUSTOMERS, 2) SHARE THE TECHNOLOGY, 3) ENDORSE A NEW MACHINE….WOULD HAVE BEEN LESS COSTLY THAN TO ALLOW CAMEO COME IN….NEED A FEMALE AT THE HELM…just my humble opinion….so your thoughts ..

I started out with the cricut bug, years ago…have since had and sold several expressions bought and never use a KNK. Now I have a bug, a cake and a pink expression as well as my second gypsy…and was given a Cameo for Christmas. LOVE the Cameo…use all of them except the KNK (blade depth and pressure too much for me) but must admit that at this point I will be using the Cameo the most. I love how it cuts. Cricut upset me with the software issues and poor customer service, but in the end, as I had already spent the money and learned how to operate the product, I still use them. I paid good money for them and will never get it back, so… and I must admit, there are times that a ‘point & shoot’ wins out over a ‘DSLR’ every time. Some days I just want to pick a project and have it all there ready to cut, no sizing, no depth issues no nothing but fun….THAT is when I use my cricut!
thanks for the sneak peek – I might have to look at this machine, just out of curiosity, but I really can’t see myself spending more money when I am happy with what I have now!

I an a bit upset, but I guess I should have done more research, I have wanted a Cricut for years and when mentioning it again my dear husband went and bought me one for Christmas the expression was looking on line at all the videos trying to learn as much as possible about the CCR and how it works before plugging mine in. And in my mind wishing there was a way to use your own files, and now I see there is with this new machine….now feeling I am losing out on the new technology and haven’t even used mine yet. Wish I knew they were coming out with a new one that would do that, would have waited and not wasted my money. ;(
pookie
I used to love my cricuts and spent thousands of dollars on their products, the imagine is a last straw machine. I sent mine back 2 times and it’s never worked right. I will be very Leary of jumping on this train. If the machine seems to be going strong 18 months from now I may get it but I will be waiting a while. I got my silhouette cameo last year and have only used my cricut (I have over 170 carts) about 2 times since. I go to my SC for everything maybe if the new machine will cut true 12×12 unlike the e2 I own and don’t use because the E1 I like more, then that could sway me a little. The bottom line is cricut has just left me with some unhappy feelings and I will have to wait and see.
pookie
btw cricut promises things and doesn’t deliver, ccr has many issues working with windows 8 and I had many gypsy issues too. the tablet idea is good but we shall see in time if it works as promised. I am just really skeptical. I don’t want to get my hopes up and excited to be upset or disappointed..and at what price point?

Looks ok but I have the regular expression the expression2 and really prefer using my big shot / vagabond faster easier! Not a fan of hooking up to a computer an aggravation! Plus Cricut shit themselves in the foot with me in lack of good customer support!

I have a cricut mini and about 25 cartridges. Reading the comments above, I, too, have been annoyed with Cricuts’ exclusivity. I use their CCR for cutting and creating cards, however, I resort to a lot of clip art that I color and use. So many times the cut figures have tags or incomplete cuts. I do better with my own scissors! I also don’t care for many of their interpretations of graphics. Too many angles and sharp edges which remind me of Cannon.com graphics. And, of course, their inability to let you import your own clip art and images and fonts! Big oversight on their part as the industry began changing!
I’ll continue to use what I have. I will not buy the new Explore. Because of turning a deaf ear to consumers, I’m turning a deaf ear to them. Good luck to new crafters but as they gain experience they, too, will see the shortsightedness and selfishness of Cricuit. They’ve become the Edsel of the 21st century.

I have read a lot about all these people who have gotten frustrated with cricut and went to other machines leaving them with a “Death To Cricut” attitude. I find this all so crazy. I am excited about the new machine and the new software. I have an Expression and a gypsy and love them both. I use the CCR sometimes but prefer the gypsy. I have NEVER had problems with my products. So I find it strange that others have had sooo many. This, as with other technology keeps changing and it’s a personal choice on whether you jump with the next best thing or not. I’m amazed as I’m reading at how many people have purchased multiple machines. ( I find it excesive really ). But to each his own I guess. I don’t need the latest greatest all the time but I do like functionality. I’m liking what these new products have to offer….its everything and more of what everyone’s been crying for. Oh except that you do have to be connected to the internet to run the thing. No prob for me cause I don’t drag my machine about I just use it at home…where I have wifi…so hey what the heck. The new software will cut svg’s gif’s jpg’s bmp’s and png’s, whatever fonts I have, oh and over 50 different mediums really?? It can cut foil and felt and burlap and basla wood, besides just vinyl and fabric poster board glitter paper on and on, hmmmm that’s exciting. It can cut and draw at the same time with one pass….that’s cool! It will have the ability to be compatible with my IPAD that’s pretty cool too. Though I have to still sit at my machine to load the paper so really if it does or doesn’t work its not a big deal to me. This machines begining price point is pretty good at $299.00, and the design software comes with it. The offer of the make it now projects are cool. Yes….I know it’s an added $9.99 a month to subscribe to their library of what 24,000 images but hey I don’t have to hunt around for them so that’s cool. Maybe this will work for you….maybe it won’t. But totally bashing it all before you even know very much about it is sad I think. Do you bash every new phone or tablet that hits the market?? Nobody can please everyone….there’s always going to be complaints for one reason or another. Good for you PC for trying to keep plugging away!
