Fabulous Die Cut Tip: Using Square 1 as a Mask for Inking

As you may know, I am a Creative Team Member for Square 1 Masterpiece.  I have been having a ball playing with this product and figuring out more ways to use it than just your traditional vinyl applications.

I discovered that the Repositionable Square 1 product was perfect to use as a mask for inking to make cards !

  • It cuts beautifully in any electronic or manual die cut machine,
  • It is a PVC-Free Fabric Adhesive Backed Product so its super easy to apply and not easily torn
  • It sticks really well around the edges so you get a clean inked image
  • It easily peels up off the paper cardstock after inked
  • It can be re-used over and over again because it is repositionable (just save your backing sheet to store it on)

Here is a 6X6 card project I recently made using Repositionable Square 1 and a quick tutorial on how I made it.

Happy Birthday Card Tutorial with Square 1 Repositionable:

  1. Cut 12X12 RED cardstock in half and use 1 to form the base of the card (reserve the other half for another card) Fold in half to form a 6X6 card base.
  2. Cut a 5 ¾ X 5 ¾ piece of white cardstock.
  3. Cut out of Square 1 Repositionable (I used yellow scraps I had on hand) two cloud shapes and the Happy Birthday word.  (I used free cut files from SVG Cuts listed at end of tutorial.) Card1 Happy Birthday1
  4. Place the shapes on (1) of the white cardstock pieces as shown in the photo. Card1 Happy Birthday 2
  5. Use a blue ink (sample used Distress Broken China) and ink tool and cover the white cardstock with the ink by making a circular motion over the entire card covering it in blue ink. Card1 Happy Birthday3
  6. Gently peel off the Square1 Repositionable and place on the backing sheet it came from. Save for use another time. Tip: take a damp cloth and wipe away any excess ink from the Repositionable before you store itCard1 Happy Birthday4
  7. Use a black journaling pen to outline the clouds, Happy Birthday word phrase and then draw some dashed lines as shown in photoCard2 Happy Birthday5
  8. Cut 2 images of  an airplane on black cardstock. (I used a file from Silhouette Online Store listed at end of tutorial)   Adhere the 2 airplane images together by using foam pop dots, making the shape more dimensional. Adhere the airplane to the front of the card to complete.

This was so easy to do and now I can repeat it as many times as I want because the Square 1 Repositionable can be used again and again.  Awesome !  If you want to purchase some to try yourself, please use my link HERE.

I can’t believe how easy and nice that turned out.
